How does water contamination threaten plant cultivation?

Common water sources can be contaminated in various ways. Rainwater cleans the air and can therefore contain many impurities including salt crystals, dust particles, fungal spores, etc. Rainwater is acidic because carbon dioxide dissolves in it. In addition, there is a risk of other impurities from gutters and poorly maintained tanks. Water from a well can be unsuitable, for example, due to natural pollution (dead organisms, unsuitable subsoil) or contamination from human activities (landfills, cesspools, industry).

The quality of tap water is most often degraded by chlorine. This poisonous gas is used as a disinfectant against viruses, bacteria or amoebas. It is not dangerous for humans, but it is for plants. Chlorine burns plant roots and kills beneficial organisms in the root system. Chlorine can be effectively eliminated using water carbon filters. High-quality carbon filters are able to filter out up to 99% of chlorine from water.

Water that is too hard can also cause major problems for plant growers. This is water that contains too many minerals to be able to successfully absorb and dissolve important nutrients from fertilizers. The solution can be total demineralization, deionization of water with GrowMax MaxQuarium.
