They are colder
LED bulbs run cooler than HIDs (HPS, MH, CMH). While HIDs become more efficient the more heat they have, LEDs are more efficient when they are cool. Too much heat in a grow room can increase humidity and condensation, which reduces airflow to the plants. Since home growers often risk overheating their grow room with HIDs, it is easier to work with cooler LEDs. An LED grow light will produce more photons per watt when it is cooler. Since LEDs degrade faster in warmer conditions, fans extend their lifespan.

They are more energy efficient
Watt for watt, LEDs produce more light. This means growers can choose a lower wattage lamp that uses less energy. The design of the SunProLED grow light also improves its energy efficiency. For example, HIDs require a ballast to convert electricity from a wall outlet into usable energy. LED lights plug directly into a standard outlet, which means less energy is lost in the conversion. They are easy to use
Because LED lights plug into a standard electrical outlet, they are more intuitive for most home growers. There is no need to buy or set up any ballasts. Just plug them in and go. LED lights are often hailed as an all-in-one package. A traditional grow light requires many components. In addition to the ballast, you will also need to invest in a reflector, separate and replacement bulbs, and a timer. LED lights require no reflector, have built-in timers, and require no separate bulbs unless you are installing an HID light.

Costs will decrease over time
One of the criticisms of LEDs is their initial cost. LEDs tend to be more expensive than other lights, so a home grower on a budget might be tempted to go with the often-vaunted HIDs simply because of their affordability. However, it’s important to note that the additional cost will pay for itself over time through improved energy efficiency. While the price is still higher than an HID lamp, the argument that LEDs aren’t worth the price is a thing of the past! LED grow lights are getting cheaper every year.

They make great complementary lights
