Rockwool, basalt wool, stone wool is the most widely used inert substrate in commercial agriculture and hobby cultivation. It does not contain any nutrients and its advantage is the ability to retain around 80% of water and around 15% of air. Among the highest quality rockwool for growing plants are Grodan products.

The right growing rockwool cannot be too hard, because the roots then have to spend a lot of energy unnecessarily to grow through it. Too soft rockwool, on the other hand, retains too much water and is not very stable. For problem-free cultivation of plants, basalt wool with a horizontal structure is more suitable, which ensures a stable humidity value throughout the medium. Rockwool Grodan provides very high-quality conditions for plants in separate cubes with or without holes, or in compact mats.
