Electronic high-frequency ballasts. Top-notch digital ballasts with light output control from Lumatek, GIB Lighting, SunPro, Elektrox, LumII.
Professional digital ballasts operate at high frequencies in the order of kilo Hertz (kHz) and have many advantages. They ensure faster lamp start-up, safer operation, are significantly quieter and do not cause flickering of the lights. Most electronic ballasts from the growshop offer are equipped with an IEC connector, making their connection much easier than with electromagnetic types.
A big plus is the ability to regulate the lighting power, usually at four levels. We recommend using the SuperLumen level (110% of the standard power) mainly after the power has decreased over time. Please note that only some types of discharge lamps work in dimming mode. Double Ended discharge lamps with a double base are the most suitable for regulating power. Metal halide discharge lamps cannot be dimmed at all.
The GSE V2.0 600W and GIB LXG Timer 600W ballasts can handle power switching even in one-watt increments!
Digital ballasts will use the light potential of discharge lamps to the maximum (above-average PAR, lm/W, PAR/W values). They are compatible with HPS, MH and dual discharge lamps. Despite the higher purchase price, their operation is more efficient, economical and safer. The higher price is balanced by quality and better growing success.
An exceptionally efficient source of light for plants are discharge lamps operating at 400V, especially those with a double base (Double Ended). The ballasts designed for them (GIB 600W/400V, Lumatek PRO 600W/400V or Lumatek PRO 1000W/400V) transform the regular mains voltage to a higher level and thus ensure a really high lighting efficiency (PAR/Watt).
Modern options for efficient plant lighting are digital CMH ballasts or Complete Fixtures with integrated ballast and shade.
Remember that these are sensitive and potentially dangerous electrical devices. Do not allow direct contact with water, do not allow high humidity, protect from improper handling and mechanical damage. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions. Always disconnect from the mains when handling.
